Walking the Plank

"Many fine things can be done in a day if you don't always make that day tomorrow."

old spoons

I finally got to tinkering around with the saudering gun/propane torch and some jewelry making. The three necklaces I gave as very late birthday gifts to some special ladies. The first necklace pendant came from the bottom of a spoon...Oscar helped a little with the drill press on this one. Necklace #2's pendant is a baby spoon I cut off. ....and necklace #3 's pendant is a serving spoon...I loved the roughness of it with the pretty beads. I did not make the necklaces just the pendants..I made this ring for myself-its an old brooch...I think it looks great except for underneath-Its a hot mess...I'll make sure no one looks too closely..hee, hee. Thanks to Michelle Beschen's jewerly making videos on DIY network!!!!!

Around the World

Sculptures from around the world! The students came up with this idea. I asked for some ideas with what we could create for our sculpture segment of art. My fifth graders agreed on around the world sculptures.....So here we have the Golden Gate Bridge, the Space Needle, the Sphinx, the Taj Mahal, the Colosseum and the Eiffel Tower.
Art for art's sake is a philosophy of the well-fed. Frank Lloyd Wright

Auction Mural

This year the music teacher, tech teacher and myself sold a mural project at our school auction in the spring. First grade studens came in on a Sat. with us teachers and began painting our Keith Haring Mural. I will post the final pic soon(I haven't taken a picture of our final work with the black borders on). This mural is the hallway leading out to recess-we needed some liveliness in this space!

Fourt Grade T-shirt Design

My fourth grade art students were asked to come up with a t-shirt design for one of our many school fundraisers. To keep the cost low for making t-shirts, we were asked to keep the design simple. So...I hade students make a bike design on black with white pencil and on white with black pencil. One student's work was chosen while the rest of the student's work was displayed on posters throughout the school adverting our fundraiser.

A study of Matisse's "Polynesia"

My after school art workshop kiddos made two of these large scale(4x8) "Polynesia's." It was fun cutting paper with all of the kiddos in a sea of white.
-Matisse makes a drawing, then he makes a copy of it. He recopies it five times, ten times, always clarifying the line. He's convinced that the last, the most stripped down, is the best, the purest, the definitive one; and in fact, most of the time, it was the first. In drawing, nothing is better than the first attempt. -Pablo Picasso

Kandinsky Art Workshop

A writer should write with his eyes, and a painter paint with his ears. Gertrude Stein

Robot Workshop

This was a fun afterschool workshop where students created one of a kind robot art. When students were finished I sprayed painted them with an aluminum silver.
